3 for 3!
Monday, September 8th, 2008Football finally arrived in spectacular fashion this weekend. If you listened to my show 10-3 today on 98.9 the Buzz, you know it was all about the start of the ball season. For possibly the first time in…..well, maybe forever, all my favorite teams won on opening weekend. It all started with my beloved Canandaigua Braves taking down McQuaid at Evans Field in CA Sat. afternoon. What a great game. My man Dave Nieman’s Braves broke out to a 21-3 lead in the first half, led by the very promising QB Marshall Johnson. From my spot in the end zone it looked like CA was in mid-season form already. But McQ fought back in the second half, and the Braves held on to pull off the win 28-27. Great game and excellent coaching by Dave Nieman. I was proud to give him a hug after the game on the sidelines.
So, now that I was 1 for 1, I made my way into the legendary Niagara Grill in CA to meet up with the Tim McKenna construction gang, who along with Mitch Buck and Team Notre Dame took over the bar to cheer on the Fighting Irish against San Diego St. The Irish held off the west coast boys in a tough game at ND. Our celebration continued uptown at Eric’s Office where I was joined by some of the loyal parents of the CA team, led by Susan and John Johnson, proud parents of the Braves star QB. Eric Zimmerman did an exclellent job of hosting the party.
Now, feeling extremely confident at being 2-o for the weekend, I ventured north Sunday to Summerville to catch the Bills game vs. Seattle. I was treated to the VIP Corner at Olies, where the McKeon brothers wheeled out the velvet rope. I was a bit caught off guard because Olies would be the last place where I would ever think they had a red velvet rope. Only Bills fans were allowed to crash the rope, which immediately set off the loyal Miami Dolphins fans in attendance. If you’re a Dolphins fan, you’ll be in strong company at O’Laughlins cuz it’s an official Fins Fans bar. Needless to say, we Bills fans enjoyed the action more than the Miami fans cuz the Bills played a flawless game and crushed the Seahawks, while Brett Favre lead the J-E-T-S to victory vs. an improved Miami team. Thanks to Jen, Emily and Mark for keeping the rowdys under control at Olies. If you’re looking for a fun spot to watch football this fall, give ‘em a shot because it was a blast. Nothing like loud fans enjoying a great day on the north coast of America.
Suffice to say, it was an extremely good weekend for yours truly. 3 for 3 with my teams. It doesn’t get any better than that for Opening Weekend. Don’t forget to show support for our ultimate teammates….God bless our troops!
